In 1922, Biologen served as a marine biological research station belonging to the University of Bergen. In the mid-90s the almost century-old building was converted into a charming guesthouse, which was further completely renovated in 2022.
Biologen Herdla has just reopened its doors to overnight guests and can now offer 35 modern hotel rooms with their own toilet and shower. All accommodation includes breakfast and free WiFi access.
It is possible to choose between 31 double rooms, 1 single room, 2 twin rooms and a mini suite. The restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner is located downstairs and can offer exciting dishes made from local ingredients.
THE BRINKMANN-HOUSE

Named after the renowned Danish-Norwegian zoologist August Brinkmann, this delightful house offers a unique lodging experience right next to the hotel. August Brinkmann, a distinguished researcher and key figure in the development of zoological studies in Norway, managed the biological station at Herdla from 1921.
Stay at the Brinkmann House to experience a blend of comfort and history. With a stay here, expect more than just a bed to sleep in – you’ll enjoy a complete experience filled with peace and inspiration from the surroundings that once inspired one of Norway's leading zoologists. The house features two rooms with king-sized beds, and one room with two separate twin beds, a living room with TV, a kitchen equipped with a dishwasher and simple cooking utensils, a washing machine, and a bathroom with a bathtub and separate shower. Not least, the house offers a panoramic sea view.
